• RTTF 2009 fast approaching
  • The 3rd annual Responsible Travel and Tourism™ Forum (RTTF 2009), set for Oct. 14 at The Old Mill Inn in Toronto, Ontario, is fast approaching.

For the third year in a row, RTTF 2009 will once again offer two inspirational and accomplished keynote speakers.

Lina De Cesare, President of Tour Operators and Co-founder, Transat A.T. Inc., will present Transat: Seeking Sustainability In Mass Tourism.

As one of the largest vertically integrated tour operators in the world, Transat has made corporate social responsibility one of its top priorities and has initiated major projects that focus on making mass tourism more sustainable.

This endeavour, conducted by a $4-billion company with 60 country destinations, has proven to be altogether challenging and rewarding, exhilarating and sobering, especially during this economic downturn.

Addressing The Business Case for Sustainable Travel will be Dr. Bob Willard, a leading expert on the business value of corporate sustainability strategies.

Dr. Willard worked 34 years with IBM Canada, is on the faculty of the Sustainable Enterprise Academy, and serves on the advisory board of the Natural Step Canada and has a PhD in sustainability from the University of Toronto. To discover more about his sustainability champions as well as for a 90-second preview of what to expect from Dr. Willard when he presents at RTTF 2009, go to http://www.sustainabilityadvantage.com .

The one-day Forum will feature two plenary sessions and four workshops.

RTTF 2009’s CEO panel, moderated by Toby Lennox, Vice President Corporate Affairs & Communications, Greater Toronto Airports Authority, will feature Greg Dixon, President, Flight Centre Canada, Rupert Duchesne, President and CEO, Groupe Aeroplan Inc., Hank Stackhouse, President and CEO, Delta Hotels and Resorts, and Brian T. Mullis, Co-founder and President, Sustainable Travel International, sharing their experiences and views on making sustainability part of a new paradigm which marries accountability and profitability to benefit society and the environment.

The panel will have an open format allowing for a dynamic exchange of ideas with the audience.

This year’s second plenary session will see Rachel McCaffery, Responsible Business Manager, Virgin Holidays and Oliver Martin, Director Global Development, Globe Span, taking a look at global trends in responsible travel business practices and how your business can evolve to meet the needs of both the present and future.

By popular demand, RTTF 2009 will once again be offering hands-on workshops. Leading expert Donovan Woollard, COO, Offsetters, will teach you how to green your business; Dr. Rachel Dodds, Director, Sustaining Tourism and Assistant Professor, Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Ryerson University will explain the often confusing landscape of green travel certification, how to do green RFP's for your supply chain; Barb Steele, Director Membership, Canadian Business for Social Responsibility (CBSR), will help you use sustainability to drive value throughout your business; and Paul Cassel, President, Up Marketing, will give you the tools to get the most out of marketing your green initiatives.
